Our new column celebrates modern women of style and purpose, offering a fresh perspective on fashion that's focused on personal style – the way they look, think and dress.

Meet Emily Salom, Creative Director, OMG Events.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Expensive Shoes. I love Dries Van Noten's metallic blue heels.

If you were a dish, what would you be?

A poke bowl with a little bit of everything that's constantly changing. There are some consistent bits, crunch, and a touch of spice.

How do you deal with a bad hair day?

I slick it back into a little bun and fix it with gel or hairspray.

What is your favourite journey?

These last 18 months have been a huge mental journey and included some pretty low times with the obvious effects Covid-19 has had on the business. There have also been some challenging personal times as we struggle to reach a new feeling of normality, along with my mixed feelings about turning 40! The mental journey from those lows to where my head is now, with really exciting business and personal growth developments on the horizon, has been my favourite journey of all.

As far as a physical journey goes, every trip pre-Covid feels like a distant memory. Being confined to our state, though, has presented some fabulous local experiences. My husband Tony and I had the opportunity to spend seven nights on the great escape cruising from Mitchell Plateau to Broome with my extended family (sans enfants!). I underestimated what the spiritual value of the land would feel like in the far north of our state. It was simply life-changing and hands down one of the most incredible weeks of my life.

What are your 3 must-buys for spring?

Marni’s green Trunk bag is a must, as is Isabel Marant's Marayli dress for party season. The fabric feels as light as a feather, so it's chic and comfortable. A new pair of Phillipe Model sneakers. I love a stylish flat because I'm always running around. They're a slightly wider fit, and the lining is incredibly soft, so they're really comfortable.

 Your favourite hero of fiction?

Alice in Wonderland. She's brave and fearless and like her, my guilty pleasure is an afternoon sleep.

The secret to a great party?

Fabulous music is a must, as is flattering lighting. You don't want guests looking in the bathroom mirror at 10pm and thinking, "oh no, time to go!"

Your signature look?

Off duty, I like a Nili Lotan tee with Moussy jeans or denim shorts and Phillipe Model sneakers. A Nili Lotan blazer with leather pants, fabulous heels, a great necklace, and a fierce red lip for night.

Stamping grounds?

Most mornings, you will find me walking my golden retriever around Lake Claremont then grabbing a coffee from the Mt Claremont Village Bakery (best almond milk flat white!).  During the day, if I'm not in my home desk or the OMG office in Osborne Park, I'm at client meetings at Vans, Pep’s Winebar, or on the deck at The Shorehouse. I love to walk from our house for a casual meal with the kids at Village Social. They have the best gluten-free pizzas!

Must-read?

A Gentleman in Moscow By Amor Towles. The writing is so poetic you can almost see, hear, feel, smell and taste it all. It's a beautiful read.

How do you keep innovating the party format?

I like to keep up with interior trends because I love interior design, and they provide so much inspiration for event styling. I pour through each Vogue Living with an unparalleled hunger. I am always screenshotting images from Instagram and Pinterest and taking photos of pages of magazines. We tailor our parties and events to each couple, and I like to create something different for each event, so innovating the party format is something that just happens. To stay true to our brand, we need to continue being creative, so every event is unique.

Your secret to a good fit?

Good quality labels and a shop assistant who knows their stuff. I like coming to Adam Heath because they know me, my body, and my style and introduce me to options I might not usually consider.

Health regimen?

I follow Intermittent Fasting and try and be as healthy as possible.

My sister, Dr Lucy Caratti, studies nutritional medicine, so I am always kept in check (and feeling guilty 🤣). I need to do more cardio and weight-bearing exercises too. Maybe that's my 2022 New Year's resolution?

"It" vernacular?

"It is what it is."

Where do you feel inspired?

My house is exceptionally minimal and monochrome, and I feel my mind works best in this environment. It's also very quiet (most of the time), and the indoor/outdoor perspective makes me feel close to nature.

 Long term ambition?

Be happy.

When do you feel most powerful?

When I am fit and healthy and in a killer outfit.

What keeps you up at night?

Coming up with ways to implement new styling ideas into current jobs. Literally every night at the moment!

Most used emoji?

😬

What music are you listening to?

Daggy 80s and 90s tracks. I've been feeling a bit sentimental lately and listening to songs my parents played when I was growing up.

I'm on my way to a party. How can I really make an entrance?

Feeling good in my outfit and walking with purpose makes a huge difference. It's all about confidence.

Your most lusted for accessory?

Dries Van Noten's beautiful black neckpiece.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Hopping into a freshly made bed (preferably with Cultiver bed linen), a cup of tea and Netflix. Heaven!
